Ostuni - The white city

If you see the photos you can guess quickly because Ostuni is called " The white city " .
In fact, the feature that attracts most tourists is its historic center and the ' lime whitewashing of the houses up to the roofs . All this gives a remarkable brightness to the city.

Ostuni is since the thirties of the twentieth century
one of the main tourist destinations in  Apulia . The white town is part of the Valle d' Itria and the High Salento . Ostuni also has the "5 sails of Legambiente" for the quality and cleanliness of beaches that make it , according to the guide Blue 2014 Italian Touring Club , the town with the cleanest sea and the best services in Apulia , and the fourth in Italy .




What to see in Ostuni

Freedom Square and the Cathedral.

Freedom Square is the best point to start your visit to this beautiful city . Here you will find the Town Hall and Column of Sant'Oronzo . From here begins the ascent to the old part very well preserved on top of which you can see the Cathedral.

The cathedral is dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta . It has a characteristic facade of late Gothic style . The central rosette is significantly larger than the side ones , has 24 spokes . The interior has a Latin cross with three naves.

Beaches and the sea.

The coast of Ostuni (six kilometers from the center) , which extends for about 20km , is punctuated by a series of long beaches , coves , rocks , dunes and Mediterranean vegetation . 

The most beautiful beaches in my opinion are Lido Morelli, Torre Pozzella und Torre Guaceto.





Trulli and Campains.

For those who want to enjoy nature, Ostuni also offers in its surroundings Trulli and campaigns with centenary olive trees.

 

Advice on what to eat

Taste a little of everything from the region Apulia, the "orecchiette" (a type of pasta), the "panzerotti" also called "calzoni" etc..! Highly recommended the cuisine based on fish, given the proximity to the sea, especially the mussels from Taranto. And how could it not also miss a good wine from this region !!!

Se vedete le foto si può intuire rapidamente perché Ostuni è chiamata "La città bianca".
Infatti, la caratteristica che attrae la maggior parte dei turisti è il suo centro storico e l' imbiancatura a calce delle case fino ai tetti. Tutto questo dona una notevole luminosità alla città.

Ostuni è a partire dagli anni Trenta del XX secolo, una delle principali mete turistiche della Puglia. La città bianca è parte della Valle d' Itria e l'Alto Salento. Ostuni ha anche le "5 vele di Legambiente" per la qualità e la pulizia delle spiagge che la rendono, secondo la guida 
blu 2014 Touring Club Italiano, la città con il mare più pulito e migliori servizi in Puglia, e il quarto in Italia.

Cosa vedere a Ostuni

Piazza della Libertà e la Cattedrale.

Piazza della Libertà è il punto migliore per iniziare la vostra visita a questa bellissima città. Qui si trova il Municipio e la Colonna di Sant'Oronzo. Da qui inizia la salita verso la parte vecchia molto ben conservata in cima alla quale si può vedere la Cattedrale.

La cattedrale è dedicata a Santa Maria Assunta. Ha una caratteristica facciata di stile tardo-gotico. Il rosone centrale è significativamente più grande rispetto a quelli laterali, ha 24 raggi. L'interno è a croce latina con tre navate.

Le spiagge e il mare.

La costa di Ostuni ( a sei chilometri dal centro), che si estende per circa 20 km, è scandito da una serie di lunghe spiagge, insenature, rocce, dune e macchia mediterranea.

 Le spiagge più belle a mio parere sono Lido Morelli, Torre  Pozzella e Torre Guaceto.






Trulli e Campagne.

per chi vuole godersi la natura, Ostuni offre anche nei suoi dintori trulli e campagne con ulivi centenari.

Consiglio su cosa mangiare

Assaggiare un pò tutto della cucina pugliese, dalle orecchiette (un tipo di pasta) ai panzerotti detti anche calzoni! Consigliatissima anche la cucina a base di pesce, data la vicinanza al mare, specialmente le cozze tarantine. E come potrebbe non mancare anche un buon vino pugliese!!!
